September 14, 2026 — Tomorrow, September 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, along with co-appellants, will appear before the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal in Saskatoon to argue that our joint legal challenge of Saskatchewan’s controversial coal extension decision should proceed to a full hearing.
July 6, 2026 — As the Government of Saskatchewan continues planning for nuclear power, the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, together with the Coalition for a Clean Green Saskatchewan, are jointly calling on the province to change course and invest in renewable energy, battery storage, electricity conservation, electricity efficiency, interprovincial connections, and grid improvements instead.
June 29, 2026 — SES welcomes the federal government’s renewed focus on east-west electricity grid interconnections, two of which are key to Saskatchewan’s clean energy future. Such interconnections have long been recognized as essential nation building infrastructure, and SES has been advocating for stronger grid interconnections, particularly with Manitoba, for more than a decade.
March 2, 2026 — SES today is raising concerns following the newly signed agreement that will see Saskatchewan-mined uranium sold to India for use in its expanding nuclear fleet. Despite India’s growing atomic weapons program and refusal to sign key international nuclear treaties, the governments of Saskatchewan and Canada are moving forward with a major expansion of uranium trade.
February 5, 2026 — The Saskatchewan Environmental Society, together with co-applicants, has filed a notice of appeal to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal in our legal challenge of the Government of Saskatchewan’s decision to openly defy federal regulations that require the phase-out of unabated coal-fired power generation by 2030.
January 14, 2026 — SES is disappointed by the Court of King’s Bench’s January 12, 2026 ruling striking our legal challenge (KBG-SA-00865-2025) on procedural grounds related to the Court’s role. This ruling does not change the scientific facts about coal pollution or the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across Canada.
