K-12 School Energy Conservation Contest
25 Acts of Energy Conservation
Between Earth Hour, March 29, and Earth Day, April 22, 2014, schools around Saskatchewan took on the challenge of saving energy, water, and reduce waste. Schools made videos, presentations, took photos, and submitted descriptions of what they did to be entered to win up to $1000 for their school.
The 25 Acts of Energy Conservation campaign is sponsored by SaskEnergy and supported by the Saskatchewan Environmental Society with daily announcements, conservation ideas, and lesson plans. Teachers and students made the month between Earth Hour and Earth Day a time to recognize environmental issues and find practical ways to reduce their impact.
The two $1000 winning projects were from Ethel Millikin School in Regina with their “We’re all in this together” campaign and Father Robinson School in Saskatoon with their “Earth Day” campaign. Ethel Millikin School received their award yesterday, May 21, and Father Robinson will receive their award on Friday, June 20. An additional 10 schools received $200 each for their energy saving efforts.
