K-12 School Energy Conservation Contest Winners
Between March 21 and April 22, 2016, schools around Saskatchewan took on the challenge of saving energy, water, and reducing waste. Schools made videos, presentations, took photos, and submitted descriptions of what they did to be entered to win up to $1000 for their school.
The two $1000 winning projects were from Bruno Central School in Bruno with their campaign, Save Roots and Water to Keep Earth Cool, and Argyle School in Regina with their campaign, We Love Our Planet to the Moon and Back. Argyle School received their award on Tuesday, May 24, and Bruno Central will receive theirs on Tuesday, May 31. Two additional schools received a Saskatchewan Science Centre Experience, one school received an honorable mention and $400 for an extension they did to a previous project, and five schools received $200 each for their energy saving efforts. The 25 Acts of Energy Conservation contest is organized by the Saskatchewan Environmental Society and the Saskatchewan Science Centre, and is sponsored by SaskEnergy, SARCAN, and The Cooperators. The contest is supported with daily announcements, conservation ideas, and lesson plans. This year’s projects identified environmental issues, and included creative and practical ways to make an impact in our world.
