SES celebrates Saskatchewan and unites community

Chefs from the Saskatoon area, including the University of Saskatchewan’s Chef James McFarland, prepared dishes made primarily from local ingredients for the Saskatchewan Environmental Society’s 10th Annual Sustainable Gourmet fundraiser dinner, held Saturday, September 19. The event was a success thanks to our sponsors, Federated Co-operatives Limited (Green Leader); Rogalski Financial (Green Collaborator), Cherry Insurance, Rock Paper Sun, and SaskEnergy (Green Sponsor); and Mistik Management, MiEnergy, and McDougall Gauley (Green Friend).

“The Sustainable Gourmet was absolutely fabulous. The food, venue, and people could not have been better, said Trevor Carlson, Director, Sustainability, Federated Co-operatives Limited. “The event is a great example of our community uniting over an important cause. Well done, SES!”

New chefs were excited to get involved at Marquis Hall, a brand new location this year. Chefs were encouraged to be creative with local fare, including cooking with bison donated from Canadian Prairie Bison. Almost 150 guests attended the event, and thanks to everyone’s generous support, we raised over $18,000 for SES.

“When we had our first dinner 10 years ago, we never imagined we would still be going now, said Judy Montgomery, Sustainable Gourmet Coordinator. “This is truly a sustainable event! We have the support of so much of the community – from the growers, the cooks, and the company.”
