Switch off electrical devices when not in use (i.e. computers, printers, monitors, coffee makers, etc.)
Why
About 1/3 of the electricity used in commercial buildings is for “plug loads”. That’s all the stuff we plug in: computers, monitors, printers, coffee makers etc. Simply turning off electrical equipment when not in use reduces the energy used to run that equipment as well as air conditioning energy.
How
Encourage staff to turn off computers, monitors, printers, coffee makers etc. when they are not in use. Develop a workplace habit that electronics are shut off outside work hours, during meetings, and over lunch hours. Use posters, tips on meeting agendas, and a team attitude to reduce electricity use.
