Where reasonable, separate heating and cooling equipment

Why

We often have heating and cooling equipment next to each other. Like the fridge right next to the stove. Sometimes that’s not avoidable, but when you can make the change, you can save a lot of energy.

How

Cooling equipment like refrigerators and freezers basically move heat out of the fridge into somewhere else. If you are trying to move the heat to a hot location the equipment has to work harder.
– If you have refrigeration equipment with remote condenser units, install the condenser outside the kitchen.
– As a minimum, keep a few inches between the fridge and stove to reduce heat transfer.
– If you are rearranging your kitchen, or setting up a new kitchen, consider keeping heating and cooling equipment apart.
– Don’t keep a freezer in your server room.
