K-12 School Energy Conservation Contest Webcast
On February 8, 2017, the Saskatchewan Science Centre and the Saskatchewan Environmental Society hosted a webcast for students. Students from 15 schools across Saskatchewan participated. The purpose of the webcast was to raise awareness of the 25 Acts of Energy Conservation program. The 25 Acts of Energy Conservation program is a province-wide, energy conservation campaign. Schools take action to conserve energy and water, and reduce waste.
World-renowned photographer Todd Mintz gave a special guest presentation to the audience regarding nature and the importance of preserving Earth. Mintz’s Endurance exhibition is currently on display at the Saskatchewan Science Centre. Endurance highlights wildlife in their natural habitat. Mintz has recently photographed wildlife within the arctic and surrounding oceans. During his presentation, Mintz spoke about the challenges he has faced while photographing different parts of the world. The Endurance exhibition is on display at the Saskatchewan Science Centre until February 19, 2017.
The Saskatchewan Environmental Society, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Science Centre, organizes 25 Acts of Energy Conservation. SaskEnergy, SARCAN, and The Co-operators sponsor the program for the 2016- 2017 school year. In addition to the environmental benefits of running a successful conservation campaign, Saskatchewan schools also have the opportunity to win prizes of up to $1000.
