Install tankless water heaters

In many commercial buildings, hot water is needed in a few locations, widely distributed around the building.  Maybe your water heater is located near your kitchen, but far from your washrooms.  Getting hot water to those washrooms either requires a water circulation pump, or running the water for a long time.  Either way, you waste energy, and maybe water.

Install a tankless heater near where the water is used.  If the savings in water and energy will be great, you can consider an electric tankless heater.  But remember we pay 3-5 times as much for electricity as we do for gas (and electricity is 3-5 times dirtier than gas), so only install an electric water heater if your energy savings will more than compensate for this difference.
